MAHOGANY TREE

  Introduction:  Mahogany is a deciduous plant, native of South Florida in United States and Caribbean islands. It is commonly known as American Mahogany, Cuban Mahogany, small leaved Mahogany and West indies Mahogany. It belongs to China Berry family found in Mexico and Central South America. Grows in wet and dry tropical forests from the sea level to the altitude of 4.600 ft. It regularly takes 12 years to reach a mature height of 50 ft. which means, they have relatively fast growth rate compared to other trees. It will grow up to 150 ft . height also with an average of 12 ft. diameter. Seeds will grow in a woody capsule called sky fruit, 6 inches long, same as wood colour, woody not softy or fleshy. Varieties: There are 3 predominant varieties exists  1) Swietenia Mahogany, 2) Swietenia Humilis, 3) Swietenia Macrophylla.   विज्ञान सिद्ध कर चुका है कि ये पेडू-पौधे हमारे लिए कितने महत्त्वपूर्ण हैं ।  धर्मशास्त्रों में भी वृक्षारोपण को पुण्यदायी कार्य बताया गया है । वृक्षों की संख्या घटने के दुष्प्रभावों का वैज्ञानिकों ने बहुत अध्ययन किया है । उन्होंने निष्कर्ष निकाला है कि वृक्षों के घटने से वायु प्रदूषण की मात्रा बड़ी है । वृक्ष वायु के प्राकृतिक शोधक होते हैं । *ये वायु से हानिकारक कार्बन डायऑक्साइड का शोषण कर लाभदायक ऑक्सीजन छोड़ते हैं । ऑक्सीजन ही जीवन है और जीवधारी उसे लेकर ही जीवित रहते हैं ।* अत : धरती पर वृक्षों की पर्याप्त संख्या का होना बहुत आवश्यक होता है । पेड़ बचेंगे तो जीव-समुदाय बचेगा । पेड़ रहेंगे तो लकड़ी की आवश्यकता की पूर्ति होगी और उद्‌योगों को कच्चा माल मिलता रहेगा । हमारी आगामी पीढ़ी को पेड़ों के अभाव में कठिनाइयों का सामना नहीं करना पड़ेगा । पेड़ और वन होंगे तो वन्य-जीवन को आश्रय मिलता रहेगा । दुर्लभ वन्य प्राणियों को विलुप्त होने से बचाया जा सकेगा । ‘जातस्य हि ध्रुवो मृत्युर्ध्रुवं जन्म मृतस्य च, तस्मादपरिहार्येथे न त्वं शोचितुमर्हसि’। श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता अध्याय 2 श्लोक 27 अर्थ है कि जिसने जन

Sagwan Farming

Sagwan (Tectona grandis) is one of the most well known timbers of the world. And it belongs to verbenaceae family. It knows as the “Burmese teak“. Tectona grandis is a large, deciduous tree that occurs in mixed hardwood forests. It has small, fragrant white flowers and large papery leaves that are often hairy on the lower surface. Generally, a teak plant grows to a height 25-30 ft and attains a girth of 30-35 inches. Sagwan prefers moist, warm tropical climate. It can withstand extremes of temperature, but maximum and minimum shades temperature of 39 to 440 °C and 13 to 170 °C respectively are most favorable for its growth. It grows well in rainfall zone of 1200-2500 mm. Teak grows best on deep, well-drained alluvial soils derived from limestone, schist, gneiss, shale and some volcanic rocks, such as basalt.
